Some of you have heard this story already, but it is certainly worth repeating (I already told Henry that this was a story I'd be sure to tell his future girlfriends one day!!) Last weekend we made a trip out to a pumpkin patch in Lawrence. I was all set to capture the perfect pictures of the boys amongst heaps of pumpkins and vines and to have an overall good time. We arrived, hitched a hay-ride out to the patch, and starting our search for the perfect gourd. To set the scene, Jack was roaming around on foot and Hank was nestled in his Baby Bjorn front carrier on Mommy. As we searched, I suddenly heard an explosion of sorts from Henry's nether region (not at all uncommon)...so I told Matt we'd have to head back toward the car soon...Henry had just filled his drawers. I continued my quest for a pumpkin and continued to click away with the camera, when I detected something wet on my jeans. I looked down to find quite the mess and begged Matt to confirm that surely it was just pumpkin guts....He assured me that it was NOT. You guessed it. Henry truly HAD exploded!! Matt took a peek at Henry's behind to assess the damage and found that his rear appeared dry....but quickly discovered that the mess was dripping down Hank's pant leg, in his sock, and down my pants....how lovely!!! Now, I thought I was as prepared as I needed to be with an extra outfit in the diaper bag for Henry...apparently I wasn't as prepared as I should have been...perhaps I will now consider carrying an extra pair of clothes for myself, as well! I took Henry to the car where I had to give him a baby-wipe bath in the back seat, then I scrubbed away at my clothes as best I could. Shortly thereafter, Matt came to the car with Jack- covered from head to toe in dirt...He had taken a tumble in the hay maze. That's when Dad put down the pumpkins and decided to surrender. We all cleaned up as best we could, loaded ourselves up, and left the patch without a single pumpkin to show for our efforts. While in theory it was a disaster, in hind-sight, it was just another crazy Deever adventure. Just like Jon & Kate say, "it may be a crazy life, but it's OUR life." ... and I love it!!!
